Bulkmatic Transport Company Named New Operator at Buffalo Thoroughbred Bulk Transfer
Facility
NORFOLK, VA -- Norfolk Southern Railway Company announced an enhancement in terminal
operations at its Buffalo, N.Y., Thoroughbred Bulk Transfer (TBT) facility with the
selection of Bulkmatic Transport Company to operate the facility.
"Bulkmatic has a reputation for quality service and experience gained through running 13
other TBT facilities across the Norfolk Southern system," said Mike Webb, manager of
MODALGISTICS, Norfolk Southern's new supply chain and distribution services group based in
Norfolk. "The equipment and services provided by the new operator will enable shippers to
increase distribution in the Buffalo area as well as throughout the Northeast and Canada,
improve terminal processes and enhance inventory control systems."
Bulkmatic offers a menu of value-added services such as packaging, warehousing and purity
controls. The company has won numerous customer awards, including being chosen four times
in DISTRIBUTION magazine's "Quest for Quality" survey as one of the top four "best of the
best bulk carriers."
The Buffalo TBT facility has 87 car spots with three tracks for food products and two
tracks for chemicals and forest products. The facility features complete paving, security,
full fencing, lighting, 24-hour access, full-time personnel, a steam boiler for product
heating, truck scale, a two-bay truck wash and a trailer dryer. All TBT facilities are
open facilities and allow haulage by qualified motor carriers.
"This facility meets all required standards for handling food-grade products as well as
plastic pellets," said Larry Smith, Bulkmatic senior vice president of Sales. "Transfers
are done by air, pump or machine, depending on shippers' requirements."
Norfolk Southern serves 23 TBT and Flexi-Flo facilities in 14 states. Additional TBT
terminals are located in Atlanta, Augusta and Dalton, Ga.; Chicago; Charlotte and
Winston-Salem, N.C.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio; Detroit
and Willis, Mich.; Miami and Jacksonville, Fla.; Petersburg, Va.; Spartanburg, S.C.;
Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Baltimore; Croxton and Paterson, N.J.; and Mobile, Ala. The
Buffalo TBT terminal is located at 50 Bison Parkway and has convenient access to Interstate
90.
