Norfolk Southern Units Help Customers Track Shipments Across Transportation
Modes
NORFOLK, VA and FORT WAYNE, IN - To help shippers easily track shipments across
transportation modes, MODALGISTICS, a leader in supply chain solutions, and TransWorks, a
leader in business process automation, have combined their transportation management
systems to create a new Web-based application.
"We are offering customers the best that both companies provide," said MODALGISTICS
President David Lawson. "Integrating MODALGISTICS' over-the-rail visibility with
TransWorks' over-the-road capabilities will give shippers end-to-end visibility."
"The new application provides shippers with automated solutions that cut across the
different business processes created by using various modes of transportation," added
TransWorks' President Tim Minnich.
The Web-based application (see www.modalgistics.com)
includes carrier tendering and selection; bill of lading creation and transmission; pickup
and delivery scheduling; equipment/yard management; and visibility of both inbound and
outbound orders from suppliers and customers. Automated back-office processing, such as
document management and auto-payment, also are employed to complete the loop on the
entire shipment process.
MODALGISTICS, a Norfolk Southern business unit, provides consulting, technology and
operational support to maximize supply chain efficiency within the industrial manufacturing
and commodity-based business sectors. MODALGISTICS enables its customers to increase the
efficiency and visibility of their supply and distribution networks through Internet-based
technology, strategic supply chain consulting, data management and outsourced operational
support.
