One common information gap in most supply chain tools is the lack of visibility once a
shipment has been received by a customer or into a warehouse. Modalview's Material
Manager and Vendor Managed Inventory systems offer our customers the ability to manage
inventory from a central location. With this information, supply chain planning
professionals can better forecast, oversee, and evaluate replenishment shipments.
Material Manager is similar to a warehouse management system, with one
major difference - the inventory information can be accessed from anywhere via Internet.
This asset management system provides inventory visibility throughout inbound, receiving,
order processing, storage, shipping, and billing processes. Inventory can be tracked by
bay location, bulk storage (pallet, gaylord, supersack, etc.), and/or down the SKU level.
Another tool that Modalgistics provides to aid our customers in the efficient management
of inventory is the Vendor Managed Inventory system (VMI). VMI offers
shippers direct knowledge of available product at, or enroute to, their customers'
locations. Shippers can then avoid extended car hire costs and demurrage by postponing
shipments to customers who have sufficient product on hand. Conversely, VMI can
auto-schedule replenishment shipments for customers that maintain a lean inventory.
